Nu Civilisation Orchestra sell out Ronnie Scott's Jazz Club

2nd February will live long in the memory. I've had some special nights directing the Nu Civilisation Orchestra but this weekend was an exceptional evening. We'd sold out both sets at Ronnie Scott's and with rehearsals going well leading up to the show we were in confident mood. The project was dreamt up by our Artistic Director Gary Crosby. The 1970's CTI jazz label was known for it's combination of high quality jazz with a commercial edge. Take Jazz Legends Freddie Hubbard, George Benson, Milt Jackson, Grover Washington and put them in the hands of arrangers Bob James , Deodato, Don Sebesky and you get an mixture of lush orchestrated jazz that filled dance floors in the 1970s. So many of the recordings got a second life as sampled material in 90's Hiphop .

Nu Civilisation Orchestra picked up the mantle at Ronnie Scott's filled with an expectant audience and we delivered a great show. Setlist included Deodato's take on Richard Strass' Also Sprach Zarathustra (Theme to 2001 Space Odyssey), a vocal version of Grover Washington Jr's Mr Magic and my arrangement of Red Clay.
