POPULATION: LEMN SISSAY, GARY CROSBY & PETER EDWARDS

At the Purcell Room

Southbank Centre Artist in Residence Lemn Sissay comes together with jazz double bassist Gary Crosby and members from the Tomorrow's Warriors Jazz Orchestra under the direction of Peter Edwards to perform six new works where an eclectic mix of acoustic jazz soundscapes link, complement and explore each poem, plus a screening of the acclaimed film poem 'What If'.

Following the success of 'What If', a powerful poem by Lemn about Darwin performed with Gary Crosby and pianist Peter Edwards broadcast on Channel 4, Lemn Sissay was given full access to the Royal Society archive. Delving deeply into the collection, Lemn emerged with six additional poems about the dynamic relationship between arts and science.

'His name is magic, his poems are songs of the street.' (The Independent on Lemn Sissay)
